InSight in Paris

Paris

La Cité de sciences et de l’industrie organizes an exceptional meeting to provide a live coverage of
InSight’s landing on Mars :

“In presence of scientists and engineers in Paris and live from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, we will review the knowledge acquired on Mars, the mission steps and challenges and we will experience landing live: the delicate phase of descent and landing of InSight.”

The so much expected event appears on the Martian horizon and it will be the time to share this overwhelming moment with the scientific personalities involved at the core of the adventure, such as Philippe Lognonné (IPGP) or Francis Rocard (CNES).

VR2Planets’ Video – InSight NASA

InSight

VR2Planets’ team, was delighted to present, at NASA’s exhibition facilities, demonstrations of the Martian landscape observations, by using its virtual reality application. VR2Mars supported new users to discover the red planet and welcome Insight, there by themselves!

VR2Planets invited by NASA

30 days to go

This May 5th, 2018 will mark the history of space exploration by the launch of a new robot to Mars, the lander InSight. VR2Planets is invited in California to present the VR2Mars application during the event.

Noticed by the teams of NASA during the last annual convention of American Geophysical Union 2017, VR2Planets has been chosen to take part, at their sides, in the promotion of Martian exploration and the underscoring of InSight lander. In prolog of the launch, the American space agency has organized several exhibitions and has invited VR2Planets to present its expertise on the campus of Allan Hancock College, in Santa Maria, on the 3rd and 4th of May.

VR2Mars: interact with InSight

InSight spread out on Mars © VR2Planets

VR2Planets will propose to the present international scientific teams, officials and spectators of the event to anticipate the arrival of the lander and find it in action on Mars. The virtual reality applicationVR2Mars recreates the conditions of landing of the lander, the deployment of the instruments and its ordered actions. It allows the user to observe it as closely as possible, to interact with it and also with a geophysical model of the planet Mars, illustrating the seismic wave propagation. He is immersed in the real images of planet, received by probes in orbit and on the ground, and modelled in 3D.

The InSight probe is the first geophysical station conceived to allow the study of the structure and the internal composition of the planet Mars. It will take off on May 5th (1st day of the launch window) from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, in California, located a few miles from the campus of the Allan Hancock College.

VR2 Planets exhibits its VR2Mars application to the public during « Les Utopiales Festival » in Nantes. 2017 Edition

2 500 festival-goers sent to space

2 500 festival-goers sent to space

We were all keen to offer an unforgettable journey on Mars and we are all satisfied to have achieved this challenge : over 5 days, more than 2 500 people came to test our VR2Mars application, during the Utopiales festival in Nantes.

Our visitors left with stars shining in the eyes and a new link with this so remote planet, now a little more familiar to them.

For Roland Lehoucq, the Festival President, the start-up succeeded in seducing the public: « Vr2Planets is a fabulous pedagogic tool which makes possible the planet Mars discovery while understanding the incredible possibilities offered by modern technologies. Fond of science fiction but also curious on sciences and technology, the Utopiales’ public has, once again, been seduced by VR2Planets’ presence. »

All the staff is rewarded of its participation: « We are so happy of the success of our application, the virtual reality wins the favor of audiences ! Enthousiasm is ever growing!!! », and particularly François Civet, the VR2Planets’ CEO: « This is always a great pleasure to present the space exploration data, seing children and adults admiring a more and more accessible planet is an incredible help for our motivation. »

This mission was also a success thanks to the support of the Planetology and Geodynamic lab of Nantes (LPG-Nantes) teams and the Astronomical Society of Nantes members (SAN), present to help us to answer this ever growing request.

Flying to Mars

The UTOPIALES 2017 FESTIVAL

Our passengers are many and so enthusiastic. All our flights were fully booked : since wednesday, up to 1 500 people have walked on Mars. Which would be Elon Musk’s dream

A few seconds only are necessary to reach the red planet located to millions kilometers from La Cité des Congrès of Nantes. By group, by yourself or with a partner, two trails are available. The first one is more ludic when the second is more scientific.

Our aim : initiate future explorer’s calling. Les Utopiales are definitely the place to meet a public keen on knowledge and dreams.

the Utopiales, a long term relationship !

The UTOPIALES 2017 FESTIVAL

A mutual trust relationship is set between VR2Planets and Roland Lehoucq, Astrophysicist and the Festival President, thanks to a long term cooperation between the Nantes University teams and the CEA in Saclay (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission).

Affiche du festival Les utopiales 2017 de Nantes

« Our ambition strongly sustained is to offer to the Utopiales’ public a breathtaking panorama of the possibitities explored by science fiction and actual science », as quoted by Roland Lehoucq.

VR2Planets, motivated by the same sharing desire, has come to present its scientific vulgarization for the third consecutive years. The spatial conquest is its driving force and the start-up is fond-of joining efforts.

To help the greatest attendance in a pleasant approach, it proposes two different ways for a complete immersion on the red planet, thanks to the virtual reality. The first, on an individual mode through the HTC VIVE helmet and the second in the groupe mode through the CAVE in a dedicated immersion room.

Paris Air Show SIAE 2017 – 3rd day

International Paris Air Show

VR2Planets begins the third day of the International Paris Air Show SIAE 2017 (Le Bourget). We received the visit of important french politic personalities today on the stand VR2Planets. Geneviève Fioraso – deputy of the first constituency of Isère & Gérard Larcher – President of the french Senate have both participated to a demonstration of our application VR2Mars. Equipped with a virtual reality helmet, they were able to tread the floor of Mars and live a totally immersive experience. They both appreciated a lot the travel on the Mars planet and the quality of our app. We were happy to see them so enthusiastic after the demonstrations they lived.

Thomas Pesquet and Emmanuel Macron visit Mars!

It’s happening. The International Paris Air Show (Le Bourget) has just started this morning and we have some good news to share! The French president Emmanuel Macron and the famous astronaut of the mission Proxima, Thomas Pesquet visited us at our booth! And that’s not all…

We are very proud to have a presence at the International Paris Air Show (Le Bourget), a well-known aerospace tradeshow, to present our recent application named VR2Mars. This application, made for geophysicists and education partners, allows a user to travel on the surface of Mars to better understand the achievements of the NASA Curiosity rover which is visiting the Red Planet.

Our booth is hosted at the Centre national d’Etude Spatiale (CNES) in the shadow of the Ariane 5 rocket. It’s very easy to find us! That’s probably what caught the eye of the president and his astronaut. They saw our set up and they visited Mars using our application using a Virtual Reality headset. “They were very excited by the demo, and the president congratulated us for the quality of our application, VR2Mars. Thomas Pesquet noticed the Cave 3D at the booth and promised to come back” said Francois Civet, CEO of VR2Planets.

We were privileged to receive Claudie Haigneré, renowned scientist, astronaut and politician, presently ambassador and advisor of the president of the European Space Agency (ESA).. We discussed our work and she was extremely enthusiastic about the potential of the application. She quickly understood how this technology could be used in the future to train astronauts.

This first morning was an intense experience and we look forward to seeing you soon at our booth on the CNES pavilion.
