VR2Planets’ team, was delighted to present, at NASA’s exhibition facilities, demonstrations of the Martian landscape observations, by using its virtual reality application. VR2Mars supported new users to discover the red planet and welcome Insight, there by themselves!
This May 5th, 2018 will mark the history of space exploration by the launch of a new robot to Mars, the lander InSight. VR2Planets is invited in California to present the VR2Mars application during the event.
Noticed by the teams of NASA during the last annual convention of American Geophysical Union 2017, VR2Planets has been chosen to take part, at their sides, in the promotion of Martian exploration and the underscoring of InSight lander. In prolog of the launch, the American space agency has organized several exhibitions and has invited VR2Planets to present its expertise on the campus of Allan Hancock College, in Santa Maria, on the 3rd and 4th of May.
VR2Planets will propose to the present international scientific teams, officials and spectators of the event to anticipate the arrival of the lander and find it in action on Mars. The virtual reality applicationVR2Mars recreates the conditions of landing of the lander, the deployment of the instruments and its ordered actions. It allows the user to observe it as closely as possible, to interact with it and also with a geophysical model of the planet Mars, illustrating the seismic wave propagation. He is immersed in the real images of planet, received by probes in orbit and on the ground, and modelled in 3D.
The InSight probe is the first geophysical station conceived to allow the study of the structure and the internal composition of the planet Mars. It will take off on May 5th (1st day of the launch window) from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, in California, located a few miles from the campus of the Allan Hancock College.
VR2 Planets exhibits its VR2Mars application to the public during « Les Utopiales Festival » in Nantes. 2017 Edition
We were all keen to offer an unforgettable journey on Mars and we are all satisfied to have achieved this challenge : over 5 days, more than 2 500 people came to test our VR2Mars application, during the Utopiales festival in Nantes.
Our visitors left with stars shining in the eyes and a new link with this so remote planet, now a little more familiar to them.
For Roland Lehoucq, the Festival President, the start-up succeeded in seducing the public: « Vr2Planets is a fabulous pedagogic tool which makes possible the planet Mars discovery while understanding the incredible possibilities offered by modern technologies. Fond of science fiction but also curious on sciences and technology, the Utopiales’ public has, once again, been seduced by VR2Planets’ presence. »
All the staff is rewarded of its participation: « We are so happy of the success of our application, the virtual reality wins the favor of audiences ! Enthousiasm is ever growing!!! », and particularly François Civet, the VR2Planets’ CEO: « This is always a great pleasure to present the space exploration data, seing children and adults admiring a more and more accessible planet is an incredible help for our motivation. »
This mission was also a success thanks to the support of the Planetology and Geodynamic lab of Nantes (LPG-Nantes) teams and the Astronomical Society of Nantes members (SAN), present to help us to answer this ever growing request.
Our passengers are many and so enthusiastic. All our flights were fully booked : since wednesday, up to 1 500 people have walked on Mars. Which would be Elon Musk’s dream
A few seconds only are necessary to reach the red planet located to millions kilometers from La Cité des Congrès of Nantes. By group, by yourself or with a partner, two trails are available. The first one is more ludic when the second is more scientific.
Our aim : initiate future explorer’s calling. Les Utopiales are definitely the place to meet a public keen on knowledge and dreams.
A mutual trust relationship is set between VR2Planets and Roland Lehoucq, Astrophysicist and the Festival President, thanks to a long term cooperation between the Nantes University teams and the CEA in Saclay (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission).
« Our ambition strongly sustained is to offer to the Utopiales’ public a breathtaking panorama of the possibitities explored by science fiction and actual science », as quoted by Roland Lehoucq.
VR2Planets, motivated by the same sharing desire, has come to present its scientific vulgarization for the third consecutive years. The spatial conquest is its driving force and the start-up is fond-of joining efforts.
To help the greatest attendance in a pleasant approach, it proposes two different ways for a complete immersion on the red planet, thanks to the virtual reality. The first, on an individual mode through the HTC VIVE helmet and the second in the groupe mode through the CAVE in a dedicated immersion room.
